Wedding at House Mountain Inn in Virginia | Nick and Shannon

Fall wedding at Mountain House Inn

We love to travel, so when Nick and Shannon’s fall House Mountain Inn wedding brought us to the mountains of Virginia during fall, we were very excited! We got on the road the day before so that we could explore Lexington, VA a little bit before heading to the wedding. After enjoying dinner at Devil’s Backbone Outpost Tap Room & Kitchen the night we arrived, we had a leisurely breakfast that morning at the most amazing bagel place in downtown called Legendary Eats. We highly recommend checking out both if you’re ever in the area. But enough about that, let’s talk about the wedding!

Why Get Married at House Mountain Inn in Virginia?

We met Nick a long time ago shooting Kelly and Ryan’s wedding together. We followed each other ever since, and were SO excited when Nick reached out and told us he was getting married!

Nick and Shannon chose House Mountain Inn for their fall wedding because almost everyone else in their friend group had been married there and it was basically a tradition! They were so excited to bring together all their different friend groups from their college days as well as their Charlotte crew for one big party. Their DJ was actually a college friend who just happens to be a very successful club and wedding DJ… and DJ Will Gralley did not disappoint! The wedding day energy was high and the day was a perfectly sunny fall day.

Getting Ready at the House Mountain Inn Lodge

House Mountain Inn is actually a full lodge with nine guestrooms and suites, so Nick and Shannon and family all stayed on the property. As a result, it was a very relaxed morning as everyone got ready: Shannon at the Irvine Estate at the top of the hill and Nick at the Main Lodge at the bottom.

First Look and Outdoor Wedding Ceremony on the Terrace

One of the biggest attractions of the House Mountain Inn venue for your wedding is the terrace, which boasts an incredible view of the surrounding mountains which are STUNNING during fall. Nick and Shannon spent as much time as possible enjoying that view; starting with their first look. They held their ceremony in the covered overlook and it was only after the ceremony that Shannon realized that she completely forgot to wear her veil! Luckily, no one even noticed, especially not Nick who was beaming at her the entire time.

Fall Sunset Portraits at House Mountain Inn

While the guests enjoyed a lovely cocktail hour on the terrace, we snuck away with the newleyweds for some epic sunset portrait with the colorful fall leaves. Shannon added her cathedral-length veil, so we made sure to capture the delicate lace in all it’s sun-soaked glory.

To truly capture the essence of the fall in the beautiful Virginia mountains, Jess created a one-of-a-kind bokeh panorama made up of over 50 individual images (below).

High Energy Wedding Reception

After hearing some of the best wedding speeches that we’ve ever heard (really!), Nick and Shannon donned their matching Shrek Crocs (made special for the occasion) and spent the rest of the night on the dancefloor. As we said before, the high energy DJ was awesome and it was such a fun time! Nick and Shannon got picked up and carried on shoulders multiple times and some guests even braved a limbo challenge. The newlyweds capped off the night with a sparkler exit and a getaway golfcart!
