How I Proposed

Well here it is… Our wedding month! It’s been a little over a year of us planning, and I (Jess) wanted to take this month to look back on how we got here, all starting with the proposal. I thought it might let people get to know our story better, and it would also be a good way for me to slow down and appreciate our story.

I grew up not being very active. I mean, I played T-Ball when I was 5, but I was the kid that was standing out in the field oblivious to the ball was coming my way. When I was in middle school I swam a little bit, but other than that, I was relatively sedentary. Most of that changed when I got to college and met Kim – she got me into running, my other friends got me into rock climbing and whitewater kayaking, and my guy friends got me into working out a bit more. But one thing I never did with my parents growing up was go skiing.

Enter Kim. She introduced me to skiing within our first year of dating after hearing I’d never done it before. I was hooked after the first time, could not wait to do it again. I had the opportunity to go to Steamboat Springs, CO, with my father in 2016, but I couldn’t bring Kim with me. I promised I’d take her out west the next year. So, we started planning our trip not too long after! We chose to have a long vacation in Denver and ski at Copper Mountain, which ended up being a fantastic choice (we can’t WAIT to go back) and the location for my proposal which we’ll never forget.

To make a long story short, we went up a quad (4 person) lift with 2 other people, made friends on the way up. At the top, I asked them to take our picture overlooking the gorgeous Rocky Mountain skyline. I gave the guy my phone, and instead of just handing him the camera, I pressed record and quietly said “Thank you for what you’re about to do”. He instantly knew what was about to happen. I went over to Kim and positioned ourselves well, and then to her surprise, I turned her to face me, and the rest is history 🙂

The following are a mix of camera and phone pictures from our trip, but they were too good not to share 😊
