Devon and Marissa bonded over their shared love of Final Fantasy X, which inspired the theme of their entire wedding! If you haven’t played it, Final Fantasy X is a classic role-playing game that features a rich, fantastical world, epic love story, and visuals that are just begging to be translated into wedding decor. It’s about as magical as it gets, with breathtaking landscapes, ethereal music, and a love story that rivals the best of fairytales.

Final Fantasy X is set in the fictional world of Spira, a world strongly influenced by the culture and geography of the South Pacific, Thailand and Japan. The venue that Devon and Marissa chose for their wedding was Haiku in Asheville, North Carolina (see another of our weddings at Haiku HERE). With its koi pond and Zen garden, it was the perfect setting for their theme. Exotic and colorful florals by Stigma & Style Design Co. added to the whimsical feel of the day and props such as the Brotherhood Sword and ceremony arch modeled after Yuna’s Staff completed the overall look. 

Our Characters’ Journey

The emotional core of Final Fantasy X—the love story between Tidus and Yuna—mirrored the range of emotions felt on Devon and Marissa’s own wedding day. From nervousness to tears of happiness and excitement to eagerness, a lot of feelings were felt. Devon and Marissa headed off some of that extreme emotion by doing a first look. Marissa shed some tears while Devon did his best to hold his own back at the ceremony.
