Sydney and Robert’s engagement session is definitely the farthest we’ve ever traveled for a shoot, but they made it worth our while! Even though they are getting married in Charlotte in August, they actually live in Charlottesville, Virginia. When we chatted on the phone with them about their ideal engagement session, we were excited to hear that they wanted to do it in Charlottesville because it’s been on our personal list to visit! We planned a trip to visit over Memorial Day Weekend and Sydney and Robert even put us up for our stay… seriously the most welcoming people we’ve ever met… and they even invited us to their Sunday brunch with friends!
The weather, however, was not so accommodating. The original plan was to get up early Sunday morning and take some photos at Carter Mountain Orchard (which we did), and then continue the session at King Family Vineyards where they were originally planning to host their brunch and watch a game of polo (yes, like horses and croquette sticks)! Unfortunately, rain all weekend resulted in the polo match being cancelled and brunch being relocated. When we left for Carter Mountain that morning, it overcast and hard to tell what it would be like at the top of the mountain. Luckily, our timing could not have been more perfect and the fog was shifting just as we got there, so we got some really cool misty backdrops and gorgeous scenery as well. And although the second location didn’t work out, this one was super meaningful to them because it was where Robert asked Sydney to marry him!
